Lady of the Lake

Here's a fabulous quilt I haven't gotten around to featuring yet. I especially love the applique border.

Made by Rita Verroca of California; from the exhibit "In the American Tradition IV" at IQF 2005.

Incidentally, I have gotten little bits done on the zipper quilt the last two weekends. I haven't made a gigantic amount of progress where it's worth taking a new picture, but I am getting there, slowly. I am very close to getting the top finished. I will have two days to work on it this weekend (Saturday and Monday) so hopefully I will be able to get that done, and I'll try to remember to take the camera this time!

I entered the zipper quilt and the autumn leaves quilt in the guild quilt show, which is called "Mayfest" but is at the end of April this year, so I really have to get going and get both of those finished! I still have a good bit to go on the leaf quilt, too. (It has a border which is still not done...)

This is one of those quilts that's grown on me. It's one of those subtle grey-and-taupe things that the Japanese do so well, and yet... it's not. Whatever it is, it's terrific.

Crosswalk

I heard Irma Gail Hatcher talk once. (This is not her quilt, though; this one is Sarah's. Just stay with me on this.) I had issues with Miz Irma Gail overall because I thought she was awfully self-congratulatory - she made sure you knew about every award she had ever won - but she said some things about design that I wish I'd taken notes on. I know that one thing she said was about the importance of diagonals, and this quilt made me think of that. It's lovely, and I think all those nice white diagonals are one reason it looks so good.

Antidote to winter

We're back to having chilly weather here, and suddenly bright quilts - as un-wintery as possible - look very appealing. This one was made by Sheril Drummond of Kentucky; from IQF 2005.

Samantha's Quilt-Along quilt

Modern quilt along zipper quilt, top done

Man, she's making me look bad! I know she started this one way after I started mine!

(Yes, I know mine is much bigger and thus it's justified to have it take longer. But I'd rather complain right now, okay?) :)

Happy New Year!

Polar Prowler

Made by Patricia Goffette, Washington. From IQF 2004.

I did get a little quilting done yesterday, for the first time in ages. My mom is finally home from the hospital. (I took the zipper quilt stuff home with me weeks ago, but somehow I never got anything done at my house.) So I went over there yesterday, and I got the 5th row finished, and started picking blocks for the 6th row. I'm thinking right now that that row, the 6th row, is going to end up being the bottom row. I'm going to do three more rows, but I'm going to add them to the other end. I think it'll end up looking more balanced that way.

(I have no new pictures. I forgot to take my camera. It doesn't look all that different than the last one I posted, though, except that I rearranged those last four blocks again and then finished that row.)
