My mother got on a huge kick of doing blended quilts a few years ago. This is one of my favorites of her efforts.

Emerald Spring
The quilt above was made by Nancy Rink of California; entered in the category Mixed Technique at the 2005 International Quilt Festival.
You can see the quilting motif pretty well in this detail picture (especially if you click over to the bigger version) and if you like it - well, you can use it, thanks to Quilters Newsletter online.
(My rather bad picture of the whole quilt is here.)
Fiesta Stars
Made by Karen Overton. Shown at Lakeview Quilters Guild's Mayfest quilt show.
Great colors.

Columbine
Quilt above made by David Taylor of Steamboat Springs CO; shown in the judged show (category: Art-Naturescapes) at the 2006 Houston International Quilt Festival.
The calicocats Livejournal community had a question today about your favorite flower, and I don't really have one because I like everything, but I thought I would put up a flower (quilt) picture just the same, and this is one of my favorites. (Plus it has a little extra meaning for me because my best friend sometimes goes by the name of Columbine online!)

Turkish Delight
Quilt above made by Lea Ann Ferring; shown at Lakeview Quilters Guild's Mayfest quilt show in 2006.
From the Mayfest program:
Pieced quilt. Judged. 56x64". Machine pieced/quilted by Lea Ann Ferring. Completed in 2006. Design source: Original setting inspired by Patty Mayer's "Busy Gypsy" quilt using quilt block, Puss in the Corner.
(I think that the "Busy Gypsy" quilt she mentions is this one.)

Mom report
My mother made this quilt out of leftover nickel squares. I think she said she got the idea from Simply Quilts. This is one of the last quilts she made, I think. And they put her into a hospice program yesterday, so I don't think she's going to be making any more.
Apparently she's still perfectly calm about it, like she's been all along. I am not perfectly calm, but I'm holding it together so far. It wasn't exactly unexpected.

Angels Watching Over Mom
Somebody needs to send some new angels to watch over my mama - the ones she has aren't doing so great.
(She has an appointment at M.D. Anderson tomorrow, though, so we'll see.)
The quilt above made by Billie Standley, from Sue Garman's block-of-the-month.

Rented Strings
Quilt above made by Jo Lynn O'Neil. Shown at Lakeview Quilters Guild's Mayfest quilt show.
Be sure to click over to the Flickr page and read the blurb about how this quilt came to be. Man, *I* want a month alone with that tub of batiks!!
Important question: Do you guys like the new format with the bigger pictures, or is it just overwhelming? I think I like them, but I am open to majority opinion on this. (It doesn't work right on pictures in landscape format, though - at least, I can't figure out a way to resize the column so that it does, so far. I have been manually going in and resizing the pictures when they're landscape.)

Decorated for a Party in China
Quilt above made by Virginia Spiers and quilted by Jo Lynn O'Neil. From Mayfest.
This quilt came from a bee I used to be active in - every month you make a block for another member of their choice. (Many of the blocks for my Faceted Jewels quilt came from this bee.) I remember that several people asked for blocks in this Chinese Lantern pattern, and I also remember that I was not particularly impressed with it at the time. But I really do like the results, here.

Mayfest
Some of you may remember me mentioning before that I took the names off of all the Mayfest photos, because of new quilt guild guidelines that seemed to forbid the use of names on a public website. However, since then I have talked to somebody who was there for the debate on those guidelines, and she convinced me that that was not their intent (the wording is very very confusing, really) and furthermore provided me with a spreadsheet with all the names and even the info from the program, so I am in the process of putting all this info back on the quilts. It may take me a while, though.
(The quilt above is one of the few that already has a name on it - it's by Jean Cloyd, and was made for the AQS "Life's a Trip" challenge last year.)

More stained glass
This is also by Brenda Henning, from the book Christmas Traditions in Stained Glass.

Stained glass
This is a piece by Brenda Henning of Bear Paw Productions. I took this when she was speaking at our guild last year. Near as I can figure out, it seems to be based on the patterns in this book.
I really like her stained glass pieces, especially for the holidays. She said they use a lot of Clover bias tape, though, so keep that in mind if you think about doing one for next year!

Eagle River Morning - and resolutions
This is a test. I changed this blog over to "Blogger Beta" rather than regular Blogspot some time ago - it has something to do with Google buying Blogger, I think, because you sign in with your Google password - but anyway, it messed up Flickr's auto-blogging thing, which means I've been having to hand-paste in the photo links. While this is not exactly a huge burden, I think I have the Flickr blogging thing working again. We'll see.
I don't really make New Year's resolutions but I've made an exception for Quilts Galore only - I hereby resolve to post every day or two. I did pretty well in December, but I hadn't been posting a lot before that. I will try to do better in 2007!

Happy 2007!
"Rio Hondo", made by Katie Paquini Masopust. Part of the "Silver Star Salute" at the 2005 International Quilt Festival.
Happy new year to everybody, and may you get much quilting done in 2007!
